Meet The Staff: Gina

Continuing with our meet the staff feature, next up is our Kentucky Farm Manager, Gina-Marie Dailey! Gina takes care of all the yearlings and mares in Kentucky, as well as running our yearling sales.

Gina is originally from Island Park, New York and has been working at Diamond Creek since 2010. She started working with Standardbreds while she was in college at SUNY Morrisville, where she gained experience working at the sales, foaling mares, and handling studs.

“With the number of horses I am responsible for, I am learning something new every day. I never do the same thing for too long. When the seasons change so do our routines; breeding season, yearling prep and then weanlings. There is never a dull moment around here.”

It is hard for Gina to pick a favorite mare, but the list includes her favorite retiree, Hundred Kisses, who acts younger than her almost 30 years. She also wishes she could go back in time to the 1996 Hambletonian and watch Continental Victory beat all the boys.

In her spare time, Gina enjoys kayaking and CrossFit, her personal record is deadlifting 265 pounds. She has 2 dogs and a whole bunch of chickens, and would like to visit all 50 states, especially Hawaii. Something she has never gotten used to in Kentucky is the frog legs, her husband loves them, but she can’t stomach the idea of eating them.

As for her hopes for the industry? “My hope is that the younger generation starts to take interest.Animals in general are a lot of work, but it’s worth it.There is nothing like watching one of your farm bred horses cross the finish line.”
